Fonos

The Fonos collection contains music from the Netherlands/the Netherlands and its (former) territories that is no longer available through regular trade. There is music to be found in all genres: pop, rock, classical, cabaret, TV tunes, soundtracks, entertainment and children's music, dating back to the 1950s.

The music comes from the archives of the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, which Fonos founded in 2003. Via Fonos, consumers were able to buy music in CD format that was no longer available in stores. These were mostly LPs. These were digitized to order and transferred to CD, including the original artwork. Fonos was discontinued in 2013.

Muziekweb has taken over the already digitized music, more than 4000 CDs, in collaboration with Sound and Vision. These have now been made physically and digitally accessible via Muziekweb. The CDs can be borrowed with a library card, or can be listened to in full within the library.

The complete list of Fonos albums in the Muziekweb collection can be viewed using this list (PDF).
