Beny Moré is considered one of the main entertainers in the history of Cuban music. Moré was born in 1919 as the eldest of eighteen children. When he was six he learned to play guitar and at seventeen he moved to Havana to try his luck. His first hit he scored in Mexico and was there a few years more popular than in his homeland. In 1953 Moré started his own big band, Banda Gigante, and became

After the Cuban Revolution (1959) Moré decided to stay with "his people" and not to move to America. Real successes he achieved no more. Alcoholism played bandleader runs and he died at the age of 43 from the effects of liver cirrhosis.more
