Besides Patti Smith, Talking Heads and Blondie Television was one of the most important bands of the scene that midjaren seventies in New York was around the club CBGB. The group was formed by singer / guitarist Tom Verlaine and singer / bassist Richard Hell and was originally called The Neon Boys. Hell was replaced by the coming of Blondie bassist Fred Smith. The debut album Marquee Moon (1977) was a major influence on later alternative super bands like U2 and REM. Even the group did not get more than cult status.
