Like the most famous Revival before them (Creedence Clearwater), The Dustbowl Revival is from California. And just like CCR, they love American roots music that is not from California. But where Creedence plunged to the sound of the Louisiana swamps, The Dustbowl Revival lost its heart somewhere between Kentucky and New Orleans. The Dustbowl Revival combines the instruments of a bluegrass combo
… (mandolin, fiddle) with a funky horn section and thus has its own sound. TDR often sounds like a group of tipsy Appalachian farmers' sons who ended up at the Carnival in New Orleans. That feeling is reinforced by the spontaneous, direct sound of this CD. As if they recorded everything live in the studio. All in all a festive roots album and a great debut. Not bad for a bunch of Californians. (PdK)more
