Banjo players Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn regularly performed together on stage, but the couple had not yet made a duo record. The immediate reason for this album was the birth of their son Juno, whose mischievous blonde head also adorns the inner sleeve. With a duo disc under the arm, touring with a child is no longer a problem. Traveling is in both their blood: Fleck once traveled to Africa
… with his banjo for several months and Washburn, while playing the banjo, improved diplomatic relations with China. On their first duo album, Fleck and Washburn return to their own continent. They breathe new life into old American gospel, blues and folk songs. The opening track Railroad even dates back to the eighteenth century. Because Fleck tunes his banjo lower than that of his wife, a nice dynamic is created between the two instruments. That has been entrusted to these two banjo virtuosos. (PdK)more
