We mainly know Carrie Rodriguez from the duet records she made with Chip Taylor. A collaboration that apparently pleases her very well, because Taylor is also prominently present on her solo debut Seven Angels On A Bicycle. He (co) produced the album, played acoustic guitar and also wrote all the songs, four of which with Rodriguez. Another prominent guest, who we met before with the duo, is the
… versatile guitarist Bill Frisell, who provides the songs with special electric guitar sounds. The music does not reflect the hustle and bustle of modern life. The moody songs move on, with a few exceptions, at a pleasant lazy tempo. When consumed superficially it seems like yet another traditional folk album, with careful listening, the music is beautifully subtle and sung in twelve careless songs, in which the hand of the master songwriter always resounds. For example in '50s French Movie, which is probably the first American folk song to be inspired by French existentialist films. (MS)more
