At first sight an unusual combination: a Jewish singer with six 'gojim', non-Jews, in one program. Yet there are many similarities in the approach to Yiddish music by Bente Kahan and Di Gojim. … proven to have a good feel for the theatrical side of the klezmer and to portray it in a tasteful way. The central theme of this CD is the dominant role of Romanian folk music in the development of Jewish music culture. Bente Kaha, whose ancestors come from Romania, found unique material in the old family archives from Transylvania. Di Gojim searched for unknown Romanian folk music that could be played in a Jewish way and in this way added new melodies to the Jewish klezmer tradition. (GO)more
