Singer Cristina Branco loves to constantly renew her own Portuguese song of life, fado, by making connections with other genres, from home and abroad. As she herself writes in the CD booklet of the album Fado Tango, the songs chosen are like the life stories of people who take a long journey by ship from Buenos Aires to Lisbon and Paris. Whether it is a fado, tango or chanson, Branco wants to touch
… the hearts of people with her songs, whether they are old or young, rich or poor. Branco finds the emotion of 'saudade' in songs by Carlos Gardel, Jacques Brel and, above all, new material composed by her highly skilled band members João Paulo da Esteves da Silva (piano), Bernardo Coutu (Portuguese guitar) and others. Ricardo Dias' accordion playing creates a cozy tango atmosphere. Branco's lyrical voice and rendition is, as always, impeccable whether she sings in Portuguese, Spanish or French. The listener can enjoy this rippling stream of atmospheric music. (SvdP)more
