We are eagerly awaiting the fourth studio album of the popular fado singer Mariza. The album Terra does not disappoint, on the contrary. Fortunately, the extravagant yet elegant Portuguese continues to do what we love so much: with her beautiful voice and fabulous timing, she will sing moving fado songs, supported by an excellent acoustic accompaniment. However, Mariza does innovate, but in a subtle
… way. In addition to the fado classic Alfama, Portuguese poetry was set to new music by, among others, Mário Pacheco, Rui Veloso, Tiago Machado and guest musicians. They liked to add a touch of flamenco, jazz and Latin to the fado. A nice duet is B. Leza's morna Beijo De Saudade with Cape Verdean singer Tito Paris. And the voices of Mariza and the flamenco singer Concha Buika contrast beautifully on Pequeñas Verdades. Cuban jazz pianist Chucho Valdes shows his skills on Fronteiras and Ivan Lins gives his As Guitarras a 'Brazilian touch'. Mariza cries at Minh 'Alma, but she swings at Rosa Branca. Terra is an album full of variety and depth. (SvdP)more
