An attention-grabbing CD cover: in a green environment we see a beautiful woman dressed in a red satin evening dress and adorned with tinkling bracelets. Sometimes external beauty serves as a camouflage for poor quality music, but that is certainly not the case now. The second album Aconteceu by fado singer Ana Moura proves again that she can sing beautifully with her dark-hued, somewhat husky voice.
Starting out as a pop and rock singer, she sang fado just for fun, but after serious encouragement of her talent by others, she immersed herself in this traditional Portuguese genre. Guitarist, composer and arranger Jorge Fernando, once one of Amalia Rodrigues's accompanists, is Moura's mentor and accompanist. Moura only sang traditional fado on her debut album, but on her second CD she also pays proportional attention to contemporary fado repertoire. A simple musical accompaniment of Portuguese guitar and acoustic guitars is enough for Moura; her voice and musicality do the rest. (SvdP)more
