After U2, singer / pianist / composer Enya ranks among the best-selling Irish artists. In contrast to U2, Enya's album sales even show an upward trend. Four of her albums have won Grammy Awards and her song May It Be for Peter Jackson's film trilogy Lord Of The Rings received an Oscar nomination. Enya is a separate phenomenon. Eithne Ní Bhraonáin left the Clannad family band early on to go her
… own way. The characteristic Enya music is created in close collaboration with producer / arranger Nicky Ryan and lyricist Roma Ryan. Enya is always and everywhere recognizable by the ethereal voiced melodies, rich vocal overdubs, synth accompaniment and dripping or pulsating rhythms. This Celtic new-age type music is very suitable to listen to in the dark winter months. It is therefore not surprising that new releases from Enya often come out in the fall. This time her seventh studio album And Winter Came even explicitly refers to the winter period. Ten original songs about the winter landscape, winter weather, angels, dreams and the Christmas spirit. Complemented with two beautiful arrangements by O Come O Come Emmanuel and a Stille Nacht sung in Gaelic. (SvdP)more
