From the beginning, McCartney-esque pop elements could be found in the Supertramps accessible version of art rock. Even In The Quietest Moments (1977), however, shows the definitive shift the group made from prog tendencies to a more commercial approach. It was released before the commercial breakthrough Breakfast In America (1979), but it does have all the omens of that album's straightforward

While Fool's Overture still has some of the weightiness that you normally associate with seventies prog, the fragile and contemplative title track and From Now On show an affection for the soft side of sixties Britpop. Give A Little Bit, which would become one of Supertramp's key numbers, is a sunny, acoustic guitar-based tune and the band sounds like a 1970s Los Angeles folk rock act. The big switch was on the way, and all the features can already be heard here.more
