Miracles do exist! No Frank Zappa fan will deny that one of his best albums is Roxy & Elsewhere (1973). Zappa recorded it live at the intimate club Roxy in Hollywood with a super line-up of The Mothers. Virtuoso compositions go hand in hand with humor and an informal atmosphere, on this former double LP. The last side of the album is Be-Bop Tango, on which Zappa invites audience and acquaintances
… on stage to come and dance. 42 years later, in the DVD film Roxy The Movie, we finally see faces: Rick, Jane, Carl, Lana ('anything you say Frank') and of course Brenda ('a professional harlot'). In this way we also get a picture of classics such as Cheepnis, Echidna's Art (Of You) and Don't You Ever Wash That Thing ?. Raw versions, that is, that appear to have been extensively reworked on Roxy & Elsewhere. But no less exciting! The sound is good, but the video recordings are quite dull and messy and were initially not put away for nothing. But given the historical value of this material, it is easy to see through. Food for Zappa fans, food for every adventure music lover! (MR)more
