Peter Gabriel never does half the work. It will take you almost four hours to watch these two DVDs. Besides a full concert, this package also includes a show from his support act (Youssou N'Dour) plus a DVD with all the video clips the singer ever recorded. Gabriel had been on the road for a year when his touring caravan arrived in Athens in the fall of 1987 for the final show of his world tour.
When Gabriel kicks off the show in the old amphitheater, the eighties are in all its glory: he wears a hairband, a headset microphone and plays a 'keytar' (the forgotten intersection of a keyboard and electric guitar). As the show progresses, the concert feels less dated. Gabriel navigates well between his hits and more experimental pieces. Plenty of highlights: the very quiet audience during Family Snapshot of Gabriel as 'crowdsurfer avant la lettre' in the rehearsing Lay Your Hands On Me. As a bonus, 25 video clips are added to the second DVD, each of which stands out because of its innovative character. All in all, a wonderful package from a unique artist. (PdK)more
