Canadian folk / pop singer Sarah McLachlan has become a star in her own country since her debut album Touch in 1989. She was also the initiator of the festival 'Lilith Fair, a celebration of women in music', traveling through America and Canada. Gradually she seems to conquer the rest of the world with her beautiful crystal-clear voice. In our country she scored modest hits with Aida and Angel. Both
… songs are on her album Mirrorball. Reason for the record company to release Rarities, B-sides & Other Stuff, released in Canada in 1996, in the Netherlands. This album is more than the title suggests. The song material fits together with the exception of a messy sounding remix of As The End Draws Near. Sarah McLachlan usually only sings own material, On this CD we also find compositions by others, including Joni Mitchell (Blue), Gordon Lightfoot (Song For A Winter's Night) and a beautiful acoustic version of Billie Holiday's Gloomy Sunday, recorded live in Vancouver in 1991. Highlights are also atmospheric listening songs as Shelter, I Will Remember You and Full Of Grace, the last two titles of which can also be found on her album Surfacing. (CK)more
