To get straight to the point: Madame X is a fairly brilliant record on which the iconic star takes on multiple guises and cleverly recycles her previous music, but also forms hip new collaborations that do work. To be honest, Madame X is also crazy sometimes - both musically and lyrically, but that is what makes this album so incredibly good. Take the pumping disco number God Control. An indictment
… of the US gun law, complete with a chorus of nuns and Madonna holding a dialogue with a crazy autotune. Elsewhere there is also room for reggae, on the song Future with rapper (which she did during her dubious performance at the Eurovision Song Festival 2019, but let's quickly forget that!) On other songs, Mads shifts towards the Latin styles, such as the infectious reggaeton song Medellín (with Colombian superstar ). The slow burner I Don't Search I Find, on the other hand, evokes memories of earlier songs like Vogue and Justify My Love. Madame X shoots in all directions without shame and full of verve. Madonna herself has something to say again, according to her politically aware lyrics. The last song is called I Rise. With Madame X, the resurrection of Madonna is a fact. (JvQ)more
