Damien Jurado is a versatile artist with a work ethic. The Shape Of A Storm is already his 18th album. Although he dives into synthpop and Latin ( , 2016) just as easily as psychedelics ( , 2012), he keeps it intimate on this album. You shouldn't expect a real storm, because on this album Jurado is only equipped with an acoustic guitar. This time he uses it to create a tranquil whole. You hear
… every guitar chord and every breath with the whispering vocals crystal clear. As if the album was recorded somewhere in an attic room, so small and minimal - even the total playing time is only 27 minutes - Jurado went to work. The result is a very fine album, on which Jurado impresses with humility. (JvQ)more
