Fresku and Mocromaniac like to make things difficult for themselves. The hip-hop duo wants success, but on their own terms. 'We not only want to be good rappers, but also important rappers'. That means that their first album Juice goes into a lot of depth. The lyrics are intimate and candid and after that they are just as easily about Dutch society. This layering makes them interesting, perhaps even
… a little too interesting for the general public. These rappers do not make one-dimensional hits for young students, but they are also not ideal for a Postbus 51 commercial. Fresku and Mocromaniac don't spare anyone, not even each other. At the emotional Tijd Loopt they even give each other's funeral speeches. On the other hand are tracks like Sorry, in which underpants fun is rampant. Musically the whole is a lot more consistent. The never-failing producer / director Teemong delivers half the beats. Even more interesting are the productions of bassist Pablo Penton. His bass lines take the music to a high level. For the jazzy and funky beats alone, Juice is recommended. The impressive, sometimes comical, raps do the rest. (JE)more
