On Day Breaks Norah Jones returns to her old love: the piano and jazz music. Although Jones was trained as a pianist and singer in the jazz genre, she moved more and more towards folk and pop over the years. The reason for her return to her 'roots' are a baby and an anniversary concert. With the birth of her first child in 2014, she often found herself in the kitchen at night, where the piano also
… stood. Then she tried to record her musical ideas on the piano while feeding the baby. In the same year she performed at the anniversary concert at 75 with jazz musicians (saxophone) and (drums). This collaboration went so well that she wanted to record a jazz album with them. Day Breaks contains nine new, self-written songs and three covers. Jones' sultry voice and refined piano playing is attractively complemented by excellent playing of renowned jazz musicians. In addition to Shorter and Blade, you will hear or Pete Remm on the Hammond organ and or on bass. (SvdP)more
