The 75-year-old singer Aaron Neville has been in the business for 56 years in 2016. As a solo artist he scored high with his hits Tell It Like It Is and Hercules. With his band he made in 1989 , one of the most important albums of that year. He was born and raised in New Orleans and you can clearly hear that on Apache. Many songs are based on the rolling New Orleans funk of Neville's Hercules. Of
… course he does not let himself go in the field of the sugar-sweet ballads on which he has a monopoly with his high falsetto voice. Apache opens with exciting blaxploitation funk that sounds like , and come straight to the point. This is followed by two soul songs in early 60s style. Stomping Ground pays tribute to all of New Orleans' great musicians. The album was produced by two leading figures from the retro soul scene Eric Krasno ( , ) and Dave Gutter ( ). Besides many young musicians, the Dap-King Horns are also prominent. It must have been a great honor for them to play with a legend like Neville. (AD)more
