Many Bob Dylan fans are obsessed with the singer / songwriter's work. Illegal LPs with unknown recordings of Dylan were already widely distributed in the late 1960s. These so-called bootlegs showed songs that the American did not want to release. After years of seeing this illegal trade, Dylan and his label started The Bootleg Series in 1991. This way they could still earn money from the insatiable
… hunger of Dylan's most loyal fans. Since then, albums full of demos, rejected recordings and live performances have been released regularly. Volume 12 covers the sessions from the period 1965-1966. A stormy time in which Dylan started playing electric and released three classic albums. The Bootleg Series have covered this era before. Interesting sessions from, for example, Like A Rolling Stone and Tombstone Blues are already on previous Bootlegs. Still, it is nice to hear these well-known songs in a different version. Even for non-obsessed fans, The Cutting Edge is a powerful time document. (JE)more
