You can't tell, but the third album of Handsome Poets was made with a different line-up than Sky On Fire from 2012. The successful second disc of the rock group from Gouda was also preceded by a radical staff change. Handsome Poets is therefore not very lucky in sailing a stable course. Fortunately, the band does manage to come up with a good pop album for the third time. Little will change in that
… regard. The album title is well chosen, because almost all rock bands that want to appeal to a large audience sound like this in 2015. The driving bass drum and the meaningless ohh or aaah choruses; you can hear it with Coldplay, Mumford & Sons and many other bands. It is thanks to the striking synthesizers of Nils Davidse that the band also sounds idiosyncratic. The song material at the end of this CD is also becoming more subdued, with singer Tim van Esch doing much better justice. Enough to say about 2015, but with the clapping and sing-along factor it is good. (JE)more
