Coldplay is pre-eminently a band that suffers from success. Not because the quartet has become famous reluctantly, but more because their popularity is accompanied by a great envy among certain music lovers. Somehow the group around singer Chris Martin is accused of making commercial, boring music. Now are the albums from Coldplay, which debuted in 2000 with , not filled with the most experimental
… music, but the group takes far more risks than most guitar bands of their caliber. On the sixth album Ghost Stories, for example, a relaxed sound is chosen with many dance influences and the occasional unworldly element, such as the floaty guitar solo in True Love. Furthermore, the record sounds very familiar, especially thanks to the vocals of Martin, who again regularly uses his falsetto. Coldplay's music is very much like a Happy Meal: there is always a surprise in it, but otherwise always the same things. Which are then quite tasty, although the critics have had their fill of it now. (JE)more
