Norwegian producer and composer Jan Bang's main instrument is an Akai sampler. With his productions and sound arrangements he is a prominent face in Scandinavian experimental jazz with important contributions to albums by Arve Henriksen, Nils Petter Molvær and David Sylvian, among others. With his artistic partner, sound artist Erik Honoré, he founded the Norwegian Punkt Festival which focuses on
… electronic music and live (re) mixing. In addition to Sylvian, the names mentioned above also collaborated, alongside a selection of jazz and ambient artists, on Bang's fourth solo album. The ambient jazz, minimal and soundscapes can seem alienating, like the Melee Of Suitcases constructed around a faltering voice, but they always sound warm, with basses that settle comfortably in your gut and lyrical trumpet notes that cut through the vast sound collages. Bang is not only a sound artist with his own world, but also knows how to express it optimally. (MR)more
