With the passing of The White Stripes († 2011), there is plenty of room for Blood Red Shoes in the category 'm / f duo with only guitar and drums'. Anyone who thought that the duo would take it easy with the climbing years would be disappointed. Also on this self-titled fourth album
… the amps go straight back to eleven in the screeching, instrumental opener Welcome Home. With minimal means, the pair builds a wall of sound. Fortunately, because they don't forget the melody, there is plenty to enjoy on this record. At its best, Blood Red Shoes combines inventive pop melodies with strong rock riffs. You can whistle along with An Animal's pounding guitar line after two times and in Everything All At Once a monster riff by front woman Laura-Mary Carter contrasts nicely with the harmonious vocal lines of the pair. After four great albums, the two Blood Red Shoes have proven to be here to stay. (PdK)more
