For the Hague group Hallo Venray, 2012 was all about the twentieth anniversary and the re-release of The More I Laugh, The Hornier Due Gets. With this album they will always be identified, and it brought the group around singer, guitarist and songwriter Henk Koorn briefly to the top of Dutch rock music. An attempt to consolidate this success resulted in a number of erratic, semi-successful records,
… but since the trio signed with Excelsior Recordings in 2000, that yoke was removed and the courage returned to do what they wanted. Show continues that line and contains no attempts at new hits, but an enchanting sound of bare alternative rock in which Neil Young and Velvet Underground are never far away. Songs sung almost unsteadily are alternated with more drawn-out pieces, like the strong Controversy that is driven by Henk Jonkers' rolling drumming. With Show, Hallo Venray consolidates its position as a prominent alternative band in the Netherlands. (MR)more
