Luka Bloom may be nearing sixty, but the productivity of the Irishman remains high. For this album he was looking for sad songs, because 'sad songs make me happy'. While collecting and writing material, the idea arose to arrange the songs sparingly and put them on the record as pure as possible. Luka Bloom picked up a few Dublin musicians, they entered the studio and came out two days later, with
… twelve recordings on the tape; finish another album. The result is indeed pure and sparingly arranged, but it is also a bit boring. However cleverly edited, a song like Every Grain Of Sand by the original artist, Bob Dylan, is really better. The same goes for And I Love You So by Don McLean (incomprehensibly misspelled on the cover as Don McClean). Head And Heart is a great record for the background, but an artist like Luka Bloom actually deserves more than that. On the other hand: Bloom loves making records very much, so there will be a new album in a not too long time. (HF)more
