De Dijk is now a band that can afford to get the currants out of the porridge. They don't really need anything, they can do anything. In 2010, for example, there was a collaboration with soul legend Solomon Burke, who provided the Dijk classics with a new jacket. Now it is the turn of the Amsterdam Sinfonietta string orchestra. There had been contact between the two groups for years. Amsterdam
… Sinfonietta already asked in 2009 whether De Dijk saw something in a joint project. Drummer Antonie Broek went to have a look at the orchestra and came back enthusiastically: 'They play just like us, they play like a band!'. Due to the crowded agendas, it has only now been possible to get the two groups to make music together. The result is impressive: the string orchestra and the band give each other space with all respect. There is audible mutual respect. The big winner is the song. The CD contains major hits by De Dijk such as Als Het Golft and Bloedend Hart, as well as classic songs by Schubert and Tchaikovsky. It is, to speak with Huub van der Lubbe, magical. (HF)more
