We first heard of the Rotterdam soul singer Nishe when she, as the front woman of the neo-soul band Jagged Soul, hit the soul-loving stages of Europe in 2006. After this it was apparently time for some freedom again, as she renamed herself Sitzka and worked with dance producers such as Dr. Rubberfunk and Soopasoul. The New Me is her first solo album on which we can clearly hear that she has had a
… difficult time. But under the motto 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger', Nishe shows that she has survived it all and that it has even made her much stronger. In that respect she received a lot of support from her fellow townspeople and fellow musicians such as Shirma Rouse, iET, trumpet player Arthur Flink (State Of Monc) and producer Budy Mokoginta. Because of all this, The New Me has become a beautiful neo-soul album that can certainly hold its own on the international market, and fortunately the raw edges have not been forgotten. (AD)more
