She is still referred to as 'daughter of', but Rosanne Cash is now herself the mother of three almost grown children. This Cash has also distinguished itself musically. She has already released twelve albums, all of them tasteful records that cross the boundaries between country, blues, folk and soul. In her husband John Leventhal she has a second who always manages to conjure up a beautiful
… arrangement from his guitar, mandolin or organ. In his late sixties, Cash has been through enough and that life experience trickles down into the compositions on this album. Fortunately, her age is not reflected in her voice, which sometimes still echoes a girlish lightness. The River & The Thread is an ode to the southern United States. Although she lived in California most of her life, her music is laced with the languid, warm sound of the Deep South. Fans of roots music should certainly not miss this album. (PdK)more
