Birdy surprised friend and foe in 2011 with her enchanting debut. The English singer covered relatively obscure songs on her first album, which in her simple arrangements became pop classics for the masses. Songs from The XX and Bon Iver got wings because of her singing and piano playing. But Jasmine Van Den Bogaerde, as Birdy is called behind the scenes, wanted more. Her second album Fire Within
… really had to bear her own stamp. So she teamed up with well-known songwriters from the industry, such as Ryan Tedder and Dan Wilson, to create a ton of songs of her own. Seventeen-year-old Birdy is also able to do that. Songs like Wings, Light Me Up and Maybe can be included in the playlists of both 3fm and Sky Radio. The production has expanded considerably and is therefore a bit more normal than on her debut. Part of its charming character is thus lost. Her special, slightly pinched voice continues to predominate. An important feat of the first CD is thus preserved. The general public that Birdy has already reached will certainly be pleased with this. (JE)more
