Two musical examples of Hugo van de Poel, the young man who played all the instruments for this debut album. A third name that leaves its mark on this album is a contemporary artist: Jacco Gardner, the singer / guitarist who caused a sensation earlier
… in 2013 with his debut Cabinet Of Curiosities. Best friends since primary school, Jacco and Hugo share a love for 1960s psychedelic pop. You think the duo recorded this album while enjoying a pot of magic tea diluted with LSD. Despite the many references to the past, especially the first half of this album sounds remarkably fresh. Some songs get a little too slow as if Hugo is the only one left after a wild party. Even though not all songs are equally sharp, Music For Mammals is definitely a promising debut at its best moments. (PdK)more
