A year after the legendary Woodstock Festival, the otherwise neat Rotterdam district of Kralingen was overrun with young people dressed in the most colorful clothes. It was 1970 and the good Netherlands had its first multi-day rock festival in the open air. It was a great success. In an artistic sense, because on this package (two CDs, one DVD) you can see and hear how good Santana, Canned Heat,
… Jefferson Airplane, The Byrds and Pink Floyd were. The best part is the DVD with performances, but with many time-related atmospheric images, such as the smoking water pipes and the nude swimmers in the Kralingse Plas. Unfortunately, the audio quality of the two CDs lags a bit behind the great DVD. The cover information is also fairly nil. An interview with the organizers of the festival would not have been out of place in the CD booklet. Nevertheless, this double CD / DVD remains a wonderful gift for all the baby boomers who attended those three days in June 1970, but just as interesting for the slightly younger generations. (PdK)more
