Seesaw is Beth Hart's second collaboration with blues rocker Joe Bonamassa. They previously joined forces on the album Don't Explain (2011). That collaboration screamed for more and so Seesaw is the logical next step. This time they cast big hits from yesteryear in a blues or jazzy jacket, a concept that works out well. Beth gives herself to the max on Tina Turner's Nutbush City Limits and Buddy
… Miles' Miss Lady, not the simplest songs after all. But the Californian simply holds its own, in fact it easily matches the level of the original version. In the meantime, Bonamassa plays happily and creates a brooding atmosphere with his electric guitar. The two seem to have found each other musically. The best part can be heard on I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know, which sparkles. Seesaw is varied, compelling and the mood is constantly different. From the exuberant Them There Eyes to the compelling final piece Strange Fruit, Hart and her guitar buddy know how to keep this album of 'oldies' particularly lively. (BvdV)more
