A month after his sister Julia released her solo album, Angus Stone also released his own work in 2012 called Broken Brights. As a duo, the Australians are extremely successful, but their collaboration has been put on the back burner for a while. Where Julia opted for accessible pop songs, Angus opted for a real singer / songwriter record, which is more in line with the work he makes together with
… his sister. Broken Brights is full of melancholic dreamy songs. The title track matches the atmospheric sound of Angus' voice very well. Between all the beautiful guitar songs are two absolute gems, The Blue Door, which is adorned with a beautiful pan flute solo and the sensitive Only A Woman, on which he occasionally resembles the young Bob Dylan. Even without his sister he is able to deliver a beautiful singer / songwriter record. (BvdV)more
