The Limburg trio DeWolff once started as a strong live act, as three young cocks who energetically reanimated the steaming hard rock of their grandparents, with a leading role for Robin Piso's throbbing and screeching hammond organ. They even managed to stand out in the Pinkpop range in 2010. On the solemnly titled IV you can hear that the group has undergone a major musical evolution in the meantime.
That organ is no longer a gimmick but part of a solid sound in which it is still 1972. Just like in those days, the boundaries between hard rock, prog and pop are not demarcated at DeWolff and that is refreshing. IV is especially notable for strong songs and rich instrumentations, in which the trio is supplemented by strings, among other things. The highlight is A Mind Slip, a suite that covers the last five tracks of the CD. Young as they are, DeWolff delivers a milestone with IV. (MR)more
