Amy Macdonald scored a mega hit out of nowhere with the song This Is The Life in 2007. The Scottish was on a striking appearance in the pop world. She didn't seem to care about the beauty ideal and all the finery that many artists from her generation wish to fulfill. For example, she regularly appeared on stage in oversized clothing and on the song Pretty Face she clearly showed that she did not
… want to participate in a music world in which packaging is considered more important than talent. Two albums later, Macdonald is quite a few kilos lighter and has been done a lot by stylists. Fortunately, her style on Life In A Beautiful Light has hardly changed. Just like Pride and the single Slow It Down, the delightful opener 4th Of July would not have been out of place on the previous albums. In addition, her lyrics sound more mature than before, which is a big plus compared to her previous work. Time has done her good audibly and visibly. (BvdV)more
