After two successful records, Blood Red Shoes threw all the rules overboard for her third album. Time To Voices was not allowed to be made in the same way as the previous two albums and not as an extension of the duo's live show. Still Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell turned to permanent producer Mike Crossey. If the first song thunders through your living room, you already know enough: Blood
… Red Shoes have not really changed their formula. These two busy people still make noise for ten. The basis is simple and effective with a single guitar and drums. The voices of Carter and Ansell, who alternate between lead vocals, are so well produced that little frills are needed. Few indie bands are this exciting, despite most having a much more extensive arsenal of weapons. Blood Red Shoes just understands what an inspired pop song should sound like, even though it never resorted to simple tricks. Only a few songs slow down, although these moments of rest often enough still degenerate into powerful statements. Not much new under the sun, but still surprising. (JE)more
