With Soul 2, Seal celebrates the joyful fact that he took his first steps in the music industry twenty-one years ago. When asked what keeps him going in this hard world, he answers the following in the accompanying CD booklet: 'The only reason I continue to make music is on the off chance that this day could indeed be the day I write another great song or have the opportunity to sing one, either
… way it doesn't really matter to me. ' The first has clearly not been available in recent years, so then a CD full of songs that have been immortalized by others. Does not matter. So much indifference must almost punish itself. And indeed. It goes without saying that Seal's voice is a far cry from Al Green, Marvin Gaye and Teddy Pendergrass, but also with lesser gods like the O'Jays and the Detroit Spinners the singer has to lose. This makes Soul 2 one of the most disappointing CDs of 2011. (AD)more
