Rapper Gers Pardoel has a nice debut with the album This World Is Van Jou. Even though the title is a bit worn out, it is immediately clear that he is referring to his music career that is going like a rocket. One moment he scores an ordinary hit with The Opposites (Broodje Bakpao, 2009) while nobody has heard of him, then he is signed to Topnotch and his debut will be in stores in the fall of 2011.
On the internet it is going well for him, because his cheerful, youthful love track Ik Neem Je Mee has been viewed more than 1.5 million times on YouTube. A logical development because Gers can rap, has a trendy appearance, but above all he comes across as a sympathetic and honest person. There is something soft about Gers, which does not make him soft, but more human. Or is that the Brabant 'g' sound? Regardless, this album sounds great, even though its beats don't always arrive and the choruses are sometimes too trite for words. (GL)more
