Starting a band with your sibling is an often tried and tested concept in pop music. Usually, however, the sexes remain strictly separated. Which girl wants to join her brother's unwashed punk band and which self-respecting boy man is going to make girl music? Angus and Julia Stone can prove that it can also be done differently. They have been touring the musical landscape together for a while with
… their interesting folk pop. Down The Way is their third record and the first they have produced themselves. The calm listening songs are colored by the Australian duo with great feeling. A big advantage here is that brother and sister Stone have fine voices that complement each other nicely. Moreover, they sound so different from each other that the songs sung by Angus have a completely different meaning than the songs that Julia sings. This keeps the album exciting and fresh, although with thirteen songs in sixty-six minutes it is a bit top heavy. Of course, brother and sister should not exaggerate. (JE)more
