At the beginning of 2010 there was talk of a whole new record from Lupe Fiasco, namely Lasers. This is an acronym for 'Love Always Shines Evertime: Remember to Smile'. During an interview with talk show host Tavis Smiley, Lupe confessed that the title acted as a 'note to self'. Between Lasers and his latest album The Cool (2007) is a period of four years in which the rapper had to deal with a
… depression and in which he even considered suicide. His father's death played a big part in this, and problems with his label catalyzed the process. With a little help from loyal fans who even campaigned for the release of the record, Lupe climbed out of the valley. Even though he doesn't like the business side of the music world, there is still a compromise. In terms of production Lasers is more rock / pop oriented, but lyrically Fiasco is just as sharp.
