Sometimes the life depends on coincidences. If BBC DJ Terry Wogan had never played Eva Cassidy's music in his morning show, hardly anyone would have heard of this talented singer. Unfortunately, Cassidy was no longer allowed to experience that appreciation for her music. She died of cancer in 1996 at the age of 33. After her death several albums were released, which did well especially in Europe.
Cassidy recorded her songs at the home of her friend Chris Biondo, who today manages Cassidy's musical legacy. This album contains fully acoustic versions of songs that already appeared in a rigged version on previous Cassidy CDs. Traditionals and evergreens are suddenly given a new impetus in her hands. Because of the bare-bones approach, the humble Cassidy does full justice to these excellent songs. With only her singing and direct guitar playing, Eva Cassidy knows how to give depth to evergreens that would sound chewed in other people's hands. (PdK)more
