Patrick Watson conquered with (2006) and (2009) the hearts of critics and serious pop fans. Watson visited the Dutch club circuit several times and did not disappoint in the sold-out venues. The learning process for this triumphal march was Just Another Ordinary Day, which Watson self-released in 2003. Thanks to this reissue, fans of the official two albums can now hear how the Canadian's development
… went. At first hearing all the known style elements of the songwriter are present: sensitive vocals, sound collages and intense and high-quality instrumentation. Yet the singer does not quite master the trick to bring all influences from the pop, theater and also classical world into a good whole. For example, the brilliantly starting Shame loses after the fourth minute the cleverness to still be able to fascinate. With an average length of five minutes, the nine tracks are a bit on the long side anyway. Watson takes a lot of hay on his fork and is not getting away with it yet. That would be all right on the successors to this debut. (JE)more
