For Barking, Underworld's first CD after (2007), Karl Hyde and Rick Smith enlisted the help of other producers for the first time in their careers. Strangely enough, they return to their original sound, so it would be interesting to listen to the original demos to hear what exactly the added value of the enlisted help entailed. An exception to this is the first single Scribble, on which producer
… added his drum'n'bass rhythm. For the rest, Underworld itself has kept tight control, so that Barking is provided with their unmistakable signature. For example, dubstep producers Al Tourettes and Appleblim have not put heavy basses and beats under Hamburg Hotel, the only redundant song, and the German trance specialist has also not unleashed his bombast on Diamond Jigsaw. At most, the influence of (half of ) was retained on Bird 1 and Grace, the strongest pieces, but that could be because they are related souls that radiate the same warmth in their sound. (AD)more
