Ernst Jansz is a real Dylan fan. You can tell by the seriousness (yes) with which he translated the lyrics of his hero for Dromen Van Johanna. He hardly dared to afford any freedoms. So A Hard Rain was translated as Heavy Rain and Just Like A Woman became Like A Woman. By always putting the meaning of the words above the sound, some texts sound a bit forced. … heaven-storming americana. So a bit boring. Still, Dromen Van Johanna is worthwhile and that is mainly due to the vocals of Jansz. Since the heyday of Doe Maar, his recognizable hoarse voice has been at least as loved by a whole generation of Dutch music lovers as Dylan's was by the previous generation. Jansz's dreamy interpretations show that Dylan's poetry, which in the hands of the creator often contains the necessary poison, can also sound mild and intimate. (MS)more
