For years, singer / violinist Carrie Rodriguez was under the care of veteran Chip Taylor. The work they made together was a successful symbiosis of youth and experience. On her first record without her mentor, the pop rock record She Ain't Me from 2008, Rodriguez seemed to want to rebel against the solid Americana sound of the past. That was a bit of a shock for the fans of the Mexican-Texan beauty,
… but luckily she makes up for everything with Love And Circumstance. The choice of repertoire shows a great fondness for the founders (Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Townes Van Zandt) and their successors (John Hiatt, Richard Thompson, Gillian Welch) of the better country and folk. She now also knows how to strike the right tone in her performances, with her soft yet accurate vocals. Guest appearances are from Buddy Miller and Bill Frisell. (MS)more
