Less than five years before the release of The Runaway, the band The Magic Numbers was considered the great promise of English pop music. The self- (2005) was well received, the band played all over the world and repeated this trick with (2006). The quartet's third album brings good and bad news. It is fantastic to hear that the band has lost neither song nor technique. The brother-sister harmonies,
… the feeling for catchy soul and pop and the lyrics are again of a high level. At the same time, the trick is starting to get a little translucent. It is now clear that the group is a fan of the music of the sixties and seventies. The surprise is completely gone and the dullness is lurking. It says next to nothing about their qualities, but The Magic Numbers should do something simple, ugly or daring in the sequel. And preferably all three at the same time. (JE)more
