… Derek has been on his own two feet for several years now with his own Derek Trucks Band with which he produces steaming blues rock in the best Allman tradition. There is a lot of drawn out (slide) guitar work on Road Songs, but it is Derek's credit that it doesn't sound spectacular anywhere. The Derek Trucks Band lives up to its name: it really is a band that sounds solid and solid but also lived through. A big plus is that this blues band, unlike many of his contemporaries, he knows how to swing. That cannot but be the result of those seven long years 'on the road'. (PdK)more
