During his career spanning more than 50 years, Mac Rebennack aka Dr. John developed from a session musician to an indispensable colorful character from New Orleans. In the TV series Treme, about New Orleans after the destructive effect of Hurricane Katrina, he plays himself. Fortunately, he still has plenty of time to make music. With Tribal, the doctor is back on track with the music that made him
… legendary. The filthy swamp blues from the time he was still called the 'Nighttripper' appears to have a timeless character. In The Lower 911, Dr. John found his ideal backing band. After City That Care Forgot (2008), about the direct consequences of Katrina, this band again supports him on Tribal, that tells about the reconstruction of the Crescent City and the lack of help from politicians (Only In America). All this is backed up with laidback funk and angry blues and shows that Dr. John is still in good shape at the age of 70. (AD)more
